Admission Policy

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program at IIM Raipur is a rigorous, full-time residential program designed to develop high-quality researchers, teachers, and thought leaders in management and allied disciplines. With a strong emphasis on original research, academic excellence, and practical relevance, the PhD Program at IIM Raipur provides an intellectually stimulating environment supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, academic resources, and institutional support to prepare scholars for careers in academia, research institutions, and policy-making organizations.

This document summarizes the admission process for the PhD Batch 2026 of IIM Raipur. Please note that IIM Raipur reserves the right to modify any part of this document including the various criteria and cut-offs mentioned at any time till the actual admission process for the batch is completed.

Eligibility

Candidates willing to apply for the admission to the PhD program must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.

ACCEPTABLE TEST SCORES

A valid CAT score is acceptable for all the functional Areas. Test(s) in lieu of CAT for the respective Areas are as follows: GMAT / GRE / GATE / (CSIR-UGC-NET) in JRF Category (with fellowship) only in relevant discipline.
Note: Online GMAT/GRE (Take home) exam scores are not valid. Only test center-based GMAT/GRE scores are valid.
Scores of any of these examinations, including CAT, taken during the last two years (two years from the date of the standard test and should be valid on the deadline for submission of the application form, i.e., on or after 1st July 2024) will be considered valid. Admission to the program is open to overseas candidates, including NRIs and foreign nationals.

Exemptions

An MBA/PGDM (two years full time) degree holder of any of the IIMs with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0/10.00 and above (or equivalent CGPA, if the grading scale is different from 10) does not need to take any Admission Test. Such candidates can directly apply within the application deadline and pay the requisite fee. After submission of the application forms, the selection procedure followed for such a candidate will be identical to that of all other candidates.

After receiving the application forms, the Admissions Office, in consultation with the Admissions Committee, will determine category-wise cut-offs across different areas for different acceptable test scores, to decide the number of candidates to be called for the Personal Interview (PI).
Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their academic record and performance in the qualifying examinations will be invited to IIM Raipur campus for a Personal Interview as part of the final selection process. The selection panel will assess the suitability of the candidates for the PhD program based on academic records, professional accomplishments, research interest, etc.

Candidates must produce all original mark sheets, certificates, test scorecards, category certificates, and all other relevant documents mentioned in the application form for verification by the Admission Office and the interview panel members.

Candidates applying for exemption/waiver from the entrance test must mandatorily upload copies of both sides of the relevant grade sheet to enable assessment of equivalence between the grading systems of other IIMs. Applications for exemption from the test will not be considered in the absence of the required documentation.

Important: Before filling in the online registration form, all candidates must read the admission policy. It is the responsibility of the candidates to furnish all correct information at each stage of the admission process. All academic and personal credentials of all candidates may be verified at multiple stages. Incorrect or untrue information/declaration shall lead to disqualification from the admission process, even after the admission process has been completed.

MERIT LIST PREPARATION

Area wise merit lists will be prepared based on academic credentials, performance in the interview, and research publications. The following are the components of the merit list (Table 1):

*Candidates having publications in Scopus Q1 or Q2 journals only will be awarded 5 marks. No marks will be given for any other publications.

OFFER ACCEPTANCE AND WITHDRAWAL

Candidates who receive an admission offer from IIM Raipur and accept the offer within the stipulated deadline must submit an Offer Acceptance Fee of ₹40,000, Caution Deposit of ₹30,000, and Alumni Association Fee of ₹10,000, along with the duly filled Offer Acceptance Form, by the date specified in the offer letter.

If a candidate chooses to withdraw the offer within the withdrawal date mentioned in the offer letter, the commitment fee will be refunded after deducting ₹1,000 as processing charges. In case of withdrawal after registration, and if the vacated seat is filled by another candidate on or before the last date of admission, IIM Raipur will refund the fees collected after making proportionate deductions towards tuition fees and hostel rent, wherever applicable.

HOW TO APPLY?

  • PhD application form can be filled in online through the link given in IIM Raipur’s website (https://iimraipur.ac.in/). A candidate is eligible to submit applications to a maximum of two Areas of specialization.
  • The last date to submit the online application form: March 27, 2026, 11:59 PM.

APPLICATION FEE

Candidates are required to submit an online fee of ₹1000/- (₹500 in case of NC-OBC, EWS, SC, ST, DAP) while applying online. Separate fees are required for each area applied. After submission of online application form and fees, candidates are required to download the filled in application form and payment receipt and send the filled in form, payment receipt along with self-attested copy of all the documents through speed post MANDATORILY to the following address on or before April 03, 2026:

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

Self-attested copies of mark sheets or transcripts of grades obtained during the course of study for the claimed degrees. Transcripts in languages other than Hindi and English must be submitted along with certified translations.

  • Research proposal
  • Self-attested copies of School and University degrees.
  • Self-attested copies of “Acceptable Test Score” cards.
  • Percentage conversion certificate from College/University (in case of CGPA/CPA).
  • Two references with their contact details and their respective email IDs from academics who have taught the candidate or with whom the candidate has worked closely on scholarly work. However, the supervisor at work could write a reference if the candidate has been away from the university for a long period.
  • Research paper published in Scopus Q1/Q2 only. Please do not send any other publications.
  • Self-attested Copies of Work Experience Certificate (if any).
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)

IMPORTANT NOTE

This admission policy applies only to the selection process for the PhD 2026 program. Please note that IIM Raipur reserves the right to modify the shortlisting, interview criteria, and the final selection at any point in time till the admission of the batch is completed.

DISPUTE REDRESSAL AND JURISDICTION

On any disputes arising out of or regarding admission to the PhD 2026 program, the decision of the Director, IIM Raipur, or his nominee shall be final. Any legal dispute concerning admissions to the PhD 2026 program would be subject to the competent courts within the territorial jurisdiction of Raipur (Chhattisgarh) city only.
